It was a difficult time for all of us.  None of us were prepared for my Mom’s death and even though he was ill and dying, my Dad’s death was just as hard on us.  It seemed like one minute they were here and the next they were gone.  Anyone who has lost a parent know how devastating it is.  To lose both parents so close to one another is twice as devastating.

When my Mom passed away, my brother and sisters and I knew that my Dad would not want to stay without her.  A few weeks before her death, my mother was in the hospital and we all went to see her and then went out to lunch afterward.  During lunch we all agreed that if anything happened to our mother, our father would not stay long.  It was just something we all knew and is not all that uncommon.  My parents were married almost 58 years and many times when couples are together that long and one passes away, the other soon follows.

I miss my parents every day but I know that even though they aren’t here in their physical form, they are with us all the time.  Just before she died, my Mom said that when the time came and she passed away, she would always be there to watch over us.  I know she is keeping that promise.
